Why Choose Trails?
Founded in 2008, NKTA is an all-volunteer non-profit organization that uses your donations to advocate, plan and maintain Kitsap's envisioned network of land and water trails. Connecting North Kitsap communities to parks, open space, schools and private developments with a network of safe recreational and non-motorized active-transportation opportunities for walking, rolling, paddling, observing wildlife, horseback riding that boost the local community's health, pride, outdoor access as well as Kitsap's economy.

With your donations, NKTA promotes, plans, sponsors and advocates for:
accessibility on our North Kitsap community non-motorized trails for all types users of all ages, abilities and interests;
parks & open space conservation that create an interconnected network of habitat corridors across the north Kitsap peninsula;
non-motorized active-transportation and recreation opportunities that help combat Climate Change;
trail safety & sustainability with maintenance projects to correct existing user hazards as well as limiting erosion conditions;
forest restoration with native plantings, invasive species removal & artwork projects along Kitsap's linear parks and open spaces;
collaboration with other organization like Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation, Great Peninsula Conservancy, Peninsula Trails Coalition, Kitsap Forest & Bay Project, Leafline Trails Coalition, Rails to Trails Conservancy, Kitsap Park's volunteer stewardship groups and EMBA-West Sound.
With your donations our legacy will continue to pursue the String of Pearls Vision, connecting communities, parks, schools and open space:
In Dec. 2024, NKTA's String of Pearls vision of a trail & habitat corridor across the Kitsap peninsula was successfully completed between the private land owner, Kitsap County, the Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC) and local donors to purchase the Divide Community Forest, thus creating the east-west route of the STO as a linear habitat corridor.
In 2024, NKTA donated to Bainbridge Island's Welcome Pole artwork along the STO.
In 2023, NKTA celebrated with City of Poulsbo at the ribbon-cutting...
