20 year project, Dana's Trail, finally comes to fruition
The $150,000 state grant, Safe Routes to School began in 2004 and was intended for projects within a two-mile radius of primary, middle or high schools to improve safety and mobility for children, but the trail was never connected to surrounding streets in an accessible way. Everything came to a halt in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic, and the project laid dormant until 2023 -- and now it's a reality for island students.
